Hello Friends of Warrior StoryField
We started the Warrior Storyfield with just a few of us and a bit of wire shaped into a thin outline of a Phoenix and a Dragon. We’ve been hard at it now for 5 years.
In that time we have built a community of veterans and civilians engaged in an ongoing conversation that takes us into places that many of us have avoided most our lives.
As a team, we have jumped head first into the unknowable realm of art to such a degree that we are asking ourselves over and over again, “Are we sculpting the Dragon and the Phoenix or are they sculpting us?”.
This exploration has been so personal and so raw that we have been very careful not to expose too much or grow too fast.
But, the moment has come to begin telling the living story behind the building of the Warrior StoryField.
As the “orchestrating artist” of this project, I will begin to tell this story with the hope that members of our team will join in on the telling. Some veterans are ready to put words to their expression. Some are not. The choice to participate in our newsletter is entirely up to them.
Some stories will be raw and personal. Many will explore the symbolism we are infusing into the bones, tissues, eyes, hearts and other features of the sculptures. Others will describe the craft of shaping and welding metal. Still others may draw a new plow through a field of myth and ritual.
Please join us.
