A Butterfly For You?
Last week Ann posed an interesting question. “Could we make something simple? Could we make a butterfly? I want to give one to my daughter.”
“What a great idea!” I said, “Yeah, let’s make a tiny piece of art we can start and finish in one day.”
Overhearing our conversation Dave cut our first butterfly with a plasma cutter that very afternoon. “Will this do?” he said, with a grin.
Ben chimed in, “Those are beautiful. I’m all in on the butterflies! Could we fatten up the antennae a bit?”
Swooooosh, gurgle, gurgle.
Fine-tuned fire slices thin sheet steel into raw butterflies dropping them into the sooty water one by one. A cool magnet swipes one out.
“Here’s one,” Dave said. “Whatdya think of this one?”
Andrew piped in, “Love it. Hey we could braze and texture it just like we do the Phoenix feathers. Let’s give it a try.”
“Yeah,” Ben said. “We could make a whole flutter of butterflies. Then, we could give something back to those who are helping us build our sculptures.”
So…here’s our New Years resolution!
We’re gonna whip up a pile of butterflies to send out as thank you gifts to all donors contributing $100 or more in 2021.
Every butterfly will be cut from steel left over from making feathers for our large sculptures. Each will then be hand shaped and hand finished by one or more of the Warrior StoryField team.
